Just to add to this. Not only has Bush invaded Iraq for no other appearent reason than oil, same thing happened in Afghanistan, and I'm sorry if I'm stepping on a few toes here, but yes, it was a tradegy that 3.000 Americans died in the september 11 attacks, but more than ten times that number of Afghans died during the first 14 of warfare. It was a much worse attrocity that the government at the time used this as an excuse to invade a country for oil. I base this on the fact that the Taleban soldiers were CIA trained, the leaders had been i Texas during the 80's to attend a meeting between (you guessed it) George and the leaders of Exxon to negotiate a pipeline deal, which eventually turned sour. After the campaign in Afghanistan the temporary leader of the Afghan government was a man who had worked as a consultant for Exxon previously.
On another note. George Orwell writes in 1984 that a perfect way to control a population is to keep them in a state of constant fear, and the best way to do this is through a war. Real or fictitious, doesn't matter. Well here's what George waid in his address to congress the 20th of September 2001: "Our war on terror begins with Al Quida but it does not end there. It will not end untill every terrorist group of global reach, has been found, stopped and defeated" and "Americans should not expect one batttle, but a lengthy campaign ... unlike any other we have ever seen".
Other items of interest include: Dick Chaney being on the board of the company who sold North Korea the parts it needed to build its nuclear reactor. One member of the bush cambinet (can't remember who right now) has voted against abortion, even the case of rape and incest. The US is calling it an atrocity that socalled rogue states are developing nuclear weapons when they have the most in the world, more than 10.000 warheads. Britain is second with "only" a few hundred.
I'm not saying that this is the fault of the american people. I take comfort in the fact that the majority of you guys didn't even vote for him. But there is something very wrong with the elite of the american society. I heard a former leader of the CIA justify the assassination of Allende that you spoke of, because otherwise chile would have been "lost" to the socialists.
I'll finish this off with a quote by Bill Hicks, an all the way through good american citizen who said about the first gulf war (and it can be applied to almost every single political war, rigged election and other mess the US have been involved in):

i don't know how it may be if you're gringo (sorry, but i am also american, i live in this continent), but when you're mexican (and i guess latinoamerican in general) you can really appreciate mr. bush as one of the greatest bastards in recent world history...
may be he's done great things within USA (like hunting down inmigrants who, by the way- cross illegaly the river and or the desert in order to wash bathrooms for some dollars); but, Afghanistan, Irak, Palestina and Am�rica Latina (to name but a few) have suffered him as an apocayptic beast.

although, i must recognize, he hasn't done this alone. it's quite easier to see USA as an evil empire in itself, like a a gringo government's tradition, with ist CIA and FBI, and DEA and WAll Street and Congress and Republicans and Democrats, getting their noses in every country around the world...
you know, they hunted (much like an animal) Ernesto "Che" Guevara" in the bolivian jungle some 30 years ago, just for "fear of the spreading of communism", the same reason to murder legitimate president Salvador Allende in 60's Chile, in order to establish a militar dictatorship...
now, irak with its unfound massive destruction weapons was a serious threat to world peace... and then why USA may posses such weapons?, god granted them the right and responsability of ruling the world?; well China also posseses such weapons, but i guess it's quite difficult to invade a country in which one quarter of the world population lives...
finally, i don't blame every single gringo for this. as individuals they are not to be blamed (i even have a couple of gtingo friends), but as a species....
