I wouldn't call the kind of c++ conversion I would do a rewrite.
i was referring to better interfaces (e.g. documented) to such thing
like your parser. IMHO better documented (and somewhat clearer)
interfaces would make the ion codebase a lot easier to use.
But I'm not sure if the conversion is necessary.
i don't think that a it is needed.

What about integration some of c++ features (as done with the linux
kernel) like inline functions (which could replace some larger defines).
That would also reduce the need of things like DECLOBJECT.
