I'm sure everyone will be pleased to know that Real Networks has continued their tradition of scorning the ICCCM. I tried their (alpha release) RealOne player for Linux recently, and it left the Ion frame in the state shown here: ftp://pelzlpj.dyndns.org/pub/paul/realone-ion.jpg The frame remains functional, but its viewable area has been cropped to the portion that was covered by the RealOne player. The remaining portion of the frame displays the root window. Something similar happens on floating workspaces, but the effect is less noticeable.
I will probably refuse to use such a horribly broken application; I'm concerned more about the possibility of screen corruption in Ion. The RealOne player can be obtained here: http://forms.real.com/real/player/unix/unix.html (On the following page, there is a button towards the bottom that links you to the RealOne player rather than the better-behaved RealPlayer8.)
