After reading this I took it to mean that if everything was configured
correctly Ion and X should "just work" with multiple displays of
different resolutions.

Ion would appear to have been compiled with xinerama support because
it shows on all three screens - but then again it was installed using
fink. What difference does xinerama make to Ions behaviour?
