I don't see how you can get anything installed this way that would 'run in
Safari.'  Not without hacking mobile Safari itself?  Mobile Safari loads up
web sites.  It does not have a file/open command to run anything locally
like that.  Building an app with webkit is another story.

Whereas the hackable fun of getting something like that to work is
appealing, I'm staying away from any hacks that 'install' apps.  All it
would take is one new update from Apple to wipe out any hack that's been
publicized thus far.  I would hate to spend any amount of time developing an
app that takes advantage of such an install hack only to have it shutdown by
Apple. Seems like a waste of time.

If/when Apple provides some sort of SDK to allow creating native iPhone
apps, I'll gladly spend the time to develop for it.  In the meantime, I just
can't imagine working on an original app that could be turned into vaporware
with an iPhone update.
