We can chat back and forth then it happens going from the inside to the
outside. The outside person does not receive the message at that time.

Yes, the IP is the same inside or out.

Are the users outside your network using NAT, Are they on a DSL Line?

Do they see the messages they are sending?

Do the Hostnames (ex. user@hostname) resolve to the same IP address for both
users (inside users and outside users)?
