I was in 7th period Physics class in my Senior year in HS in Central NJ. The announcement came over the loudspeaker/intercom system. We were told to go home.
I also remember feeling that having nearly every radio station I normally listened to broadcast nothing but somber funeral music for over a week afterward. I was a DX'er at that point, and soon discovered that what I could hear with 'regular' programming was likely Canadian, so I actually added a few stations to my log because of that.
