Though Morse Code can be easily identifible something with a little more punch is needed to hear a DX Test from futher away on a crowded channel. My recommendations are to use sweep tones and staircase waves if at all possible. As others have mentioned the sweeps and staircase waves really punch through the mush on a crowded channel. One such experience here is from the WKDK 1240khz DX Test from Newberry, SC back in Feb. 2008. The morse code was buried in the mud and only bits and pieces were heard. But the sweeps and staircase waves made it easily here on the peaks (the high frequency portions of both type of wave forms).
We all know that there are fewer and fewer tests each year. Just trying to make it easier for more DX'ers to have a chance at hearing a test and in this case from a rare state.
