The british have called it this way for years now. The justification is as so.

Sumarised definition of a simple attack: "The straightening of the arm with a 
lunge"

Definition of PIL (from t10) : "Sword arm is kept straight and the point of his 
weapon continually threathens the opponents target"
(Note there is no mention of footwork, finger movements wiggling the point etc)

You will find that if you make a point in line and then subsequently lunge that 
both the above definitions apply, so what are you doing? Attacking or PIL? The 
definition used in britain and that (subsequently) I use when presiding is that 
you are attacking. However this is a relativly new interpretation, it was 
definitly the former interpretation when I first started fencing sabre.

Marcos, as the other experienced sabreur on this board, do you remember how 
this was called when you first started fencing?
