----------------------------------------------------------- From: insanemisskitty Message 23 in Discussion This discussion is getting quite interesting. the rights of the individual, anonymity, social and Freudian psychology; what more could a girl want? Righto, to add my voice against the screaming mob. 1. I support the rights of an individual to remain anonymous. Really guys, how many of you actually go out into the Big Wide Web?? I haven't come across one board where people have gotten so "huffy" as they do here with anonymous posters. I said it before, but I will say it again, you are acting extremely cliquey and really, lets face it guys, most of the really active posters on here are UCDites (or their coaches!), and it is like a glorified boys own club. If I didn't know better I'd swear we were dealing with 10 year olds, a lot of the posts I read.(And yes, I have probably just lowered myself to that level by name-calling, but its time you people got a reality check about how these posts look to the rest of us!) 2. Its a little bit understandable. Group dynamics suggest (and I do hope I'm not treading on your territory here Dan, being only a humble psych graduate, as opposed to a first arts student?! ) that we identify far more with our chosen group if there is a selected adversary. In this case its anonymous mailers, the IAFF and Siobhan Byrne. That is why Owen feels so uninhibited about abusing an unknown entity. He (or she) is not "one of us" so its acceptable. I'd love it if it was some sweet 7 year old you just blew to bits Owen. Its called depersonalisation, and its how the Nazis managed to destroy 6 million Jews without anyone blowing the whistle. (and yes, I just used the most extreme form of bigotry and hatred I could find to highlight my point). Anonymity is a right the internet has bestowed us. If you cannot handle it, get off the web! ----------------------------------------------------------- To stop getting this e-mail, or change how often it arrives, go to your E-mail Settings. http://groups.msn.com/IrishFencingForum/_emailsettings.msnw Need help?
