Hm, a bad workman always blames his tools eh?! The reason no females from UCD
didn't enter the Fed Foil is a lot to do with most of the club opting out of
this surprise tournament because our weapons were shot to pieces after a
particularly viscious Schull. Just as a matter of interest, how many male
foilists entered from UCD, what weapons did they use? Clubs or their own? (I
really do not know this) ...Apparently this thought effected our female
fencers far worse than the males Ahh Owen, now you're just trying to bait me
aren't you?! . This puts me in mind of the last Federation Foil, which UCD
hosted and I ran alone, hmm, I wonder why that was?! No man is an island
Owen. I don't know whether you offered to take it or was it foisted upon you,
whic was it?! Perhaps you're just not a "people person" where I came across
a pool of eight women all standing motionless around a piste that hadn't been
taped down repeatedly saying, "This piste isn't taped down". It is a true
story, I'm not making any judgements. Good, because I do remember a dearth of
tape at certain comps. Plus, we are (nearly) always given the crappy pistes
that are not properly set up. If you want comps in Ireland to become more
popular abroad, perhaps you should start giving your females fencers some
respect, and not expect them to go round setting up pistes that should have
been prepared well in advance. whoops! you got a rise out of me, and you made
me revert to topic on an off topic board, you naughty naughty man! on a last
note, and as a pointer, I noted a grand total of one girl from UCD in the Irish
Open in womens foil out of a list of 20, only 3 in epee out of 21 and one out
of 13 in sabre. Thats a bit sad really, for the (by my calculations at least)
largest club in Ireland. Mr McNamee, I urge you to look to your own house first
with regards to getting friendlier fencers, less discrimination and more
numbers in the sport ! As for the ladeez of UCD, well done you lonely three (in
total!), keep it up!
