POPE TERRIBLY WENT WRONGAboobakar ThwahirThe comment on Prophet Muhammad by Pope Benedict is very unfortunate. It is misinformation to say that Islam was spread by sword. There is no need for Islam to do so as people had come in groups in Islam without any threat from Prophet. During his first 13 years of prophet hood, he and his companions were ill-treated, hurt and they suffered all types of physical violence, by they never retaliated but left Makkah and took asylum in Madinah. The entire Madinah accepted Islam without any pressure, but on mere advice from Prophet and companions. But Makkans pursued them in Madinah too and they came with superior force and ammunitions and fought against Muslims. In the first combat Muslims were successful in making the enemy retreat but in the second war at Uhad, Muslims were defeated and even Muhammad himself was injured. God has declared in the Quraan that Prophet Muhammad was sent as a Mercy to mankind as saviour to humankind. Islam has upheld the sanctity of human life and asked its followers not to hurt any one, physically and mentally. Islam stands for peace, brotherhood and mercy. The word itself means peace and surrender to the will of God. Muslims salute with the word peace be upon you (assalamu alaikum). There is nothing Islamic about terrorism, bombs and suicide missions.Islam condemns all violations of human life and all atrocities. Islam is tarnished by interested people by giving the adjective Islamic for the deeds done by people having Muslims names. There is no sanction for disorder and violence in Islam. Prophet declared the policy of treatment of minorities Whoever hurts a non-Muslm citzen of a Muslim state hurts me, and he who hurts me annoys God and I am his adversary and I shall be his adversary on the Day of Judgment. If Islam was spread by sword it could have commanded a following of 1.3 billion people. Quraan declares Let there be no compulsion in religion, truth stands out clear from error (2:256) Islam is the most peaceful religion on the face of earth and it wants its adherents to uphold piety. An ideals Muslim believes that all his actions will be recorded and he is answerable for all his deeds. Quraan says: whosoever does good equal to the weight of an atom shall see it and whosever does evil equal to the weight of an atom shall see it (99:7-8) . Quraan shows the path that is right and exhorts its followers to maintain good human relations, to spread peace and to eschew violence and to have patience and endurance.Most killings in history of human kind was done by Christians, taking into the account two world wars and crusades in which millions of people were mercilessly killed. Also Europeans set out to conquer poor nations resutling into mass murders in many such nations. UK enslaved half of the world once. In contrast, during defensive combat of Prophet Muhammad only about a 1014 people were killed of which 255 were Muslims.! The killing of Muslims continues even today in Afghanistan, Palestine, Iraq, Lebanon etc.I quote Dr Javed Jamil:Not only Muslims but Jews were also brutally massacred by Christian crusaders. In the first Crusade, the Christian fighters, in order to avenge the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, massacred tens of thousands of innocent Jews, Muslims, and even Orthodox Christians who had the misfortune to dress or look like Muslims. On July 15, 1099, they reached Jerusalem where streets were drenched with the blood of Muslims and Jews. Those who survived were sold into slavery. In 1144, in the Second Crusade, the Jewish communities of Germany faced another slaughter in Jesus name. During the Third Crusade in 1170. Jews in York, Lynn, Norwich, Stamford, and other towns of England were massacred. In 1198, Pope Innocent III began the Fourth Crusade. He ordered Jews to wear badges to identify themselves, and then ordered them to be killed to atone for Jesus death. After the formal ending of Crusades, thousands of young Crusaders burned their way across Europe exterminating more than 150 Jewish communities. The worst victims were of course Muslims. In the First Crusade, nearly all of the Muslims inside Antioch. were killed by the merciless crusaders. . Then the crusaders attacked Marrat an-Nu'man where the crusaders (The Templars, known for their religiousness) slaughtered a hundred thousand people. The attack on Jerusalem witnessed the worst kind of brutalities that ever occurred before in the history. No Muslim was given mercy. Old, young, men, women and children were brutally massacred. The blood flooded the streets, reaching as high as knees. Muslims were thrown from the tops and burnt. The crusaders mounted the Mount of Solomon and killed hundreds of thousands. In contrast when Salaadin recaptured Jerusalem, no Christian was harmed. Those who wanted to leave the city were allowed to do so; those who wanted to live were allowed to live by paying tribute. Those who could not pay tribute were condoned. The irony is that Crusaders themselves lost millions of lives in the fights; often Christens killed fellow Christians with the same brutality with which they massacred Muslims and Jews."What does the pope say about this?People and popes should shed prejudices against Islam and I appeal to them to read and understand the message of Islam from Quraan and life of Prophet Muhammad before making comments.
