Guys I've gone further than that: I even have a patch to Imaging which
implements LZW decompression using the classes in Compress, and copies those
classes into Imaging's JAR using maven-shade-plugin to avoid a run-time
dependency. It passed all the tests, and was even somewhat faster than
Imaging's LZW in my preliminary benchmarks - can't remember by how much though.
It's not committed yet because I wasn't sure if Imaging could/should depend on
a SNAPSHOT version of Compress, and there still hasn't been any new releases of
Compress since before my LZW changes to it were committed.
