I am not sure about the strategy of removing directories below a threshold.
I can see how that easily blocks local setups (try out, play around) while not
really helping in serious large scale setups (100 MB is written in less than a
second on most machines).
I would vote to go for the option that the IOManager does not fail if one
directory is full, but rather tries the next one in that case.
