the problem we're hitting is that Hadoop changed what DFSClient.LOG is between
Hadoop 2.7 and Hadoop 2.8+. We're expecting it to be a commons-logging log4j
impl but instead it's an slf4j adapter because Hadoop moved to slf4j.
