### Apache Hop version?
SNAPSHOT-20261021
### Java version?
Java 21
### Operating system
macOS
### What happened?
Found while documenting the result of this action (#8970, PR #9197).
Send Nagios passive check can't send a check anymore. With a server name and
a message filled in, the workflow stops:
ERROR: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/commons/lang/Validate
Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException:
org.apache.commons.lang.Validate
ERROR: A serious error occurred during workflow execution
No hop from the action is followed. Only an empty Host name/IP address or
Message still gives a normal false result, because those are checked before
jsendnsca is used.
The plugin uses jsendnsca 2.1, which depends on commons-lang 2.6
(`org.apache.commons.lang.Validate`). The plugin pom excludes all jsendnsca
dependencies (plugins/actions/sendnagiospassivecheck/pom.xml,
`<exclusion>*:*</exclusion>`), so it relied on commons-lang 2 being in
lib/core. 8745d6ed87 (#6878, Commons Lang 2.x to 3.x) removed it from
lib/pom.xml, first in 2.18.0, so the plugin lib only holds jsendnsca-2.1.jar.
The error is a NoClassDefFoundError, which the `catch (Exception e)` in
execute() (line 251) doesn't catch.
Reproduced with hop-run on the 2.19.0 release and on a 2.20.0 snapshot
(2026-10-21; the plugin has no changes since). With commons-lang-2.6.jar copied
into plugins/actions/sendnagiospassivecheck/lib, the action works: the check
reaches a test NSCA server with the right level, host, service and message,
also with XOR and Triple DES.
Expected: the action sends the check. Possible fixes: let the plugin ship
commons-lang 2.6 in its own lib folder (only the plugin classloader sees it),
or replace jsendnsca, which is no longer maintained.
The current behaviour is documented in a WARNING on the action page (PR
#9197), so the docs need an update when this is fixed.
