I think the git repository for both projects should be initially a full clone
of lucene-solr (from the same commit); this way all of the history is
preserved. You could filter to just include certain branches but I don't see
the point. And you're right in that 8.x should probably continue to happen on
lucene-solr repository (even if all the remaining infrastructure is divided
into Solr TLP and Lucene TLP). This makes logical sense too as 8.x "belongs" to
both.
Let's aplply out the remaining documentation and packaging patches and then
I'll repeat the attempt to split the repositories on those "standalone"
branches.
