I want to share that we've seen some weird profiles while comparing 10.2 and 10.3 where there seemed to be a slowdown in 10.3 exactly in this area, and based on the headscratching nature of it, and difficulty reproducing, we were starting to think maybe there is some hotspot callsite pollution due to bulk scorer being used in the main search path, but not in the "upper level search".
