Robert Scholte commented on MCOMPILER-378:
------------------------------------------

This requires a little more details. It looks like this message is coming from
the JDK, not from the maven-compiler-plugin in which case there's not much we
can do.

bq. It's not clear for me what can I type into this tag

Which tag? Can you give an example?

> "release version not supported" error message
> ---------------------------------------------
>
> Key: MCOMPILER-378
> URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/MCOMPILER-378
> Project: Maven Compiler Plugin
> Issue Type: Improvement
> Reporter: Ewa Śliwińska
> Priority: Minor
>
> When the JAVA_HOME is set to one of prior JDKs, the title error message is
> returned.
> It is confusing, because it suggests newer Java version is in fact not
> supported (I even thought it is the case for Java 12 - but then had problems
> with finding information about correct values for this tag), and what is
> really happening is that current compiler cannot use it.
> Furthermore, I checked and for example version 20 raises this error, when 200
> - not.
> It's not clear for me what can I type into this tag, I searched for it's
> description, but had problems fining it.
