Re: your step 1: I don't think mvn idea:idea picks up the version control
from the pom.xml. Do you get that to happen? In my case, it is more like:
1. Generate
2. Manually edit Idea project to add cvs version control
3. Add new dependency
4. mvn idea:idea
5. version control setting is overwritten to 'no version control'
