slachiewicz opened a new pull request, #344: URL: https://github.com/apache/maven-gh-actions-shared/pull/344
Builds now save the Maven repository, JDK and Maven distribution caches only from a push to the default branch or to a branch whose name ends in `.x` (`maven-3.9.x`, `mvnd-1.x`). Every other push, fork pull request and `dependabot/` branch restores without saving. `cache-save-default-branch-only: true` still narrows saving to the default branch alone. The decision is made once in `setup-maven-version` and read by every cache step. A branch can read caches only from itself, the default branch and its pull request base, so a topic branch's entries serve nobody but that branch. On 2026-10-14 topic and maintenance branches held 26.7 of the estate's 48 GB of caches, only 26% of their JDK entries were ever read again, and six topic branches put maven-dependency-plugin at 10.83 GB. Verified: the policy script run locally for push to `master`, `maven-3.9.x`, `mvnd-1.x` → save; `agent/foo`, `dependabot/maven/x`, a tag, a pull request → restore only; `maven-3.9.x` with the input set → restore only. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
