## Problem
There is no v4 SPI for observing repository events (artifact installed,
metadata
updated). IDE embedders that maintain indexes of available artifacts must
override
`RepositoryListener` — an internal component — to observe these events.
## Who needs this
- **m2e**: Overrides `RepositoryListener` to index workspace repositories
for IDE
features (dependency search, content assist, etc.).
## What's needed
A repository event listener SPI in `org.apache.maven.api.spi` that notifies
observers
when artifacts or metadata are installed, deployed, or updated in local or
remote
repositories. This is a simple event/callback SPI — no complex design needed.
This would eliminate m2e's `RepositoryListener` component override.
