sounds like timeouts are sorted.

We can easily protect from bad acting clients sending arbitrarily large data by 
just killing the connection if they exceed a max size and we know precisely how 
much we're writing to the repo.  So that we should definitely do.

And yes if the client can make arbitrary number of connections and exhaust 
resources we should address that as well.

I'll take a look at both as I dig through the PR more fully.
