Lars Hofhansl commented on PHOENIX-5712:
----------------------------------------
After some more brainstorming with [~yanxinyi], [~gjacoby], [~ckulkarni], et
al, we this the following would be a better solution:
# Fix the VIEW_INDEX_ID type in SysCat with a 4.16 upgrade script. Note that
this upgrade can't do DDL (ALTER TABLE...) but instead we'd directly UPSERT
into the SysCat and change the type of SYSTEM.CATALOG.VIEW_INDEX_ID to BIGINT
that way. Care must be taken to also update the timestamp.
# When a "normal" SQL client read the value of SYSTEM.CATALOG.VIEW_INDEX_ID, we
would translate the value from the type stored in VIEW_INDEX_ID_DATA_TYPE to
the type that VIEW_INDEX_ID is declared with. Care must be take to not do this
internally (in MetadataClientImpl), since we need the exact bits to store the
view index ids)
I'm sure there're some more complications, but this general theme should work.
