Chris M. Hostetter commented on SOLR-15321:

bq. So there shouldn't really be a need for users to customize the "official"
image when we have made it exceedingly simple to customize the
functionally-identical "local" image. We can just provide nice documentation on
the later.

+1 ... i was pointing out that from a "transparency" standpoint, it's very easy
for someone to recreate the official images "exactly" -- not that we
would/should make it easy (or even possible) for users to build "custom" images
using Dockerfile.official -- that's what Dockerfile.local is for

> Assuming we (the Apache Solr TLP) do want to be the maintainer of "official"
> {{_/solr}} docker images moving forward, we need to flesh out how/where
> exactly we plan on storing/managing/maintaining the Dockerfiles that should
> be pointed to by the docker-library manifest file for solr...

>  * what replaces [https://github.com/docker-solr/docker-solr.git]
> * what process do we use to update/manage this?
