Curious: What happens on a 8.8 node that is started on a buggy state.json from
ZK? Will the node refuse to start at all with errors in the logs, will it come
up as operational but with no active cores, or something else? Can one detect
the issue on any node during a rolling upgrade, or only on the nodes hosting a
collection with a bogous state.json? This Jira is not very informative on the
symptoms.
Earlier we have added a special temporary warning section to the Downloads
page. Perhaps we can do that now after the 8.9 release, pointing to the
UpgradeNotes section in the 8.9 RefGuide that highlights the issue?
