Dawid Weiss commented on SOLR-15644:
------------------------------------

https://github.com/randomizedtesting/randomizedtesting/blob/8be8a09e3b3bf1a57947d5367a1afe68322ac4dc/randomized-runner/src/main/java/com/carrotsearch/randomizedtesting/ThreadLeakControl.java#L740-L746

A thread must return true from isAlive to be considered part of the "leaked"
set. I've never seen the problem you describe nad we use the framework in
complex projects with lots of background stuff as well. If you do encounter
this, please ping me. Things happen. Can be a race condition inside the JDK
code somewhere or a bug in rr.

> Add the ability to interrupt and wait for threads for problematic tests.

> The stuff in the test framework is slow and lacks control. For problematic
> tests, you don't want to linger first and you want fine control around
> interrupting - interrupting with a sledgehammer approach can actually make
> things take longer.
