In general though, this is just setting a default for the built in configs. This is not setting a default for every config. Users that make their own config, which I would argue is a large number, would still set this themselves. I see this the same as the autoCommit setting, which we already provide a default for. We could make users do it themselves, but we provide a reasonable default to give them a good onboarding experience and show them how we suggest running solr in a general use case.
