Hi, thanks for the detailed issue description. I too see several clients have now started the migration to gateway API, so this is probably a good time to get this ball rolling for Solr Operator. I have not yet dived into the deep of Gateway API capabilities, so I don't have a clear mental picture of what would be the Gateway equivalent of adding custom labels and annotaions to the ingress resource, that e.g. Nginx interprets in a proprietary way. How can we maintain the necessary level of customization for users? So I'm not in a position to give a clear answer to your question about various kinds of routes. But I do think the plan you lay out above will solve the needs of a lot of users, so I'm positive to accept a first PR that will provide gateway feature to users so they can start try it out.
