I failed to mention, another justification for systemd unit timers is how if you're starting fetching fresh, ie a new system, and you just had *one* fetch for all email, you'd have to wait eventually for a large channel to finish before going back to your smaller channels. With different units for different channels you'd have more flexibility to call mbsync in parallel to handle different channels with different timing parameters. And it turns out, system-source wise this isn't grave at all.
