1 - Acrobat 5.01 has all kind of bugs, specially font bugs. Use a more
recent version.

2 - The spool size depends on many things, none of which you can control.
Patterns are particularly memory hungry as the pattern must be repeatedly
written to the printer as lines and dots. No magic here, a single line in
the PDF can amount to another mega in the spool.

3 - If you want to use patterns you must pay the price. If you are so
worried with the spool size maybe you should use text files.

4 - I'm rather annoyed with this kind of questions. Tests done with an old
Acrobat version and a single printer border the insult.
