Heureka,

I got it working consistently in all Adobe Software. The clue was to
the note on pp. 518 of the PDF Reference 1.6. This note shall be
formerly known as an important note! ;)

(Reader of the mailing list can download this here
http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/pdf/index_reference.html or
google for PDF Reference 1.6 if the link is broken.)

In essence this note says that a soft-mask in the graphics state is
intended to clip only a single object. If used to clip more than one
object the effect from Acrobat Reader 7.0 happens.

So the solution is to put multiple object into a transparency group.

I'm only attaching the source code this time as I already posted too
many PDFs to this mailing list. The PDF will only be posted on special
request.

Hello Leonard and Paulo,

i did some more experinmenting. After changing the coordinates of the
image a little the image got displayed in Adobe Professional 6.0. But
unfortunatly still not the way it is displayed in Acrobat Reader.
I attached the source code and PDF of this file. You should be able to
reproduce the file with any other image or you save the jpg from the
pdf.

When I add the blending color space (see the commented line in the
source) which you make the resulting PDF more standard conform, then
the image vanishes again in Adobe Professional 6.0.

I hope this will give you a clue to what is going on. I'm am very confused.

Regards,

Michael
