Hi,
Fisrt sorry for itext forum users for being talking more about Adobe and less
about itext, but I think this 2 topics are important and have an impact on how
one use itext with pdf forms.
Leonard my comments to your comments:
Adobe will NOT be changing it's position - this is a security concern and we
plan to continue to prevent the use of insecure functionality in untrusted
environments. Our users prefer it this way.
That said, we understand that there ARE scenarios where trust can be
established and therefore such features SHOULD be enabled. In those
environments, we expect to allow you to do this.
=> "we understand that there ARE scenarios"... Leonard this "scenarios" are
business scenarios. In my opinion Adobe is minimizing this "scenarios" because
they are still thinking as a "desktop" mind. I think that more than ever, the
future of Adobe is in those business scenarios, because if not why the
existience of LiveCycle Products? Those at home that open sometimes a pdf file
are not the real costumers. And if you go see the implementations of Livecycle
they are specially directed to Intranets. So, one more reason to consider those
scenarios.
The use of certificates to do such a simple task like a silent print is not an
option. The use of it in an Intranet is much worse!
Moreover I doubt that the idea to protect by itself a PDF file it is a good
idea. One should use the infrasturcture of the machine and of the
communications (ex.: anti-virus; SSL; etc.). I don´t even talk about the
digital signatures and how they are implemented in PDF files: for each digital
signature the size of the PDF is almost double sized. And what about the idea
of a pdf as a secure file? Hackers already broke many of the PDf security
functionalities... So what Adobe will do about that? Tell the customers not to
open a PDf file while connected to the Internet?
What I want to say with this is that in my opinion Adobe direction is not the
right direction. Not because the products they have are not good, in fact I do
like to use PDF, but because how they are being used. And yes there are other
directions. You have the example of IBM, for instance.
"It's all about trust..." » In a business solution with hundreds of users and
computers, one can´t trust Adobe right now. This is my true feeling. Since
version 7, Adobe is taking functionalities telling they were security bugs. You
just can´t make this just like that. I´m sure Adobe is getting complians about
their costumers just because this small change relating to silent print. Please
note that Livecycle users are in general big enterprises.
As for the use of folder scripts, I forgot to say that the function needs to be
a trusted function. I THINK this will work.

Leonard, In the future I do believe Adobe will need to change its position
about this, because while they see it as a threat, customers see it as a
functionality. Also, I think there is another way to acomplish a silent print:
if one use the same code but in a javascript folder.

Re: [iText-questions] message at silent print since last acrobat aeader
updateDepends on your certificate.
In the future, there may be other options - but for Acrobat 8.x, this is the
only one.

Hi, What is the consequence of that in the size of the pdf, if any? Thanks

Re: [iText-questions] message at silent print since last acrobat aeader
updateYOU may consider it trusted, but you have not in any way designed it to
Acrobat/Reader - so it doesn't know that.
Self-signing the document AND then distributing that signature to all users and
marking it as trusted will indeed work.

Hi Leonard, My local application runs in a trusted environment but still the
warnings appear. If I (self) sign the document would that be a working solution?
