I'm somewhat mystified by your efforts to pre-process images that are already in formats that can be handled entirely by iText methods. iText has all the methods you need to determine the dimensions of any image (that it is designed to employ). You can then use those dimensions to determine the scale factor needed to scale the images to the sizes you want. Please read Chapter 5 and adapt the examples you find there to your own situation. You might also try reading the fine documentation.
