There's more than meets the eye and it's not about the font. The font is Helvetica bold but is stretched wide because the box size in the annotation array is [104.25,13.87] and in the appearance is [50,25]. I set this field using iText and the result was correct. Whatever set the field originally was not iText or it was something other than AcroFields.setField().
