I took your font, and tried to type the ö character using that font in 
OpenOffice.org. It showed me a ^ instead. In fact all characters I tried 
with a ¨ character, was wrong. The fact that OpenOffice has problems 
brings me to the conclusion that there's a problem with the font, 
regardless of whether it is used in iText or not.
