I sense your concern here but this is not just a problem with itext users, information providers don't seem to understand the limitations of these documents. While I applaud the Adobe guy for showing me the PDF CAD demo, often important relationships about information are removed from a document. Indeed, I've even seen public websites suggest that filers flatten documents to make it more difficult for others to user computers to automate data processing. On a more constructive note, however, I would repeat my comments that it may be possible to extract information from pictures - consider of course OCR as one example. Maybe someone has found a typesetting package, or OCR package for that matter, that would prompt the user ( or doing something like a conflict ridden subversion merge?) when it can't figure out how to "reflow" a document according to rules, heuristics, or auxillary input files that contain more info on author's intent or current beliefs about document typesetting rules.
