I have a one paged PDF which I'm using as a 'background', 'watermark' or 'stationary' if you will to the content I'm generating. This background pdf contains a number of form fields which I intend to fill and amongst these are $pagenum and $pagecount.
In that case, my answer still stands:
you can add the PdfImportedPage as background in a page event, and use the field positions to add page numbers and the total page number template.
