Professional Services Engineer
Job Summary: This position requires a candidate with broad technical and business professional skills. The scope of this position involves working with requirements of enterprise clients to provide and deploy technical architectures that deliver the highest value add on NetApp solutions. A Professional Services Engineer will be expected to position and deliver company marketed solution sets and other custom consulting. He will work with the sales team to present solutions to customers unique requirements. He will architect, propose and implement designs to meet the customer business and technical needs. This position requires a dynamic, hard-working and ambitious individual, with good oral and written communication skills. Candidates will also possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills and have experience project managing storage solutions. Consulting experience with strong customer interaction skills a must. Skill sets that may be required include: * In-depth Windows knowledge: NT, 2003, Active directory, Exchange * Unix and/or System Administration skills on products such as Network Appliance, SUN, HP, IBM, EMC * System monitoring tools: HP OpenView, SUN NetManager * Network design and administration skills: Cisco, Brocade * Backup/Restore tools: Legato, Veritas, Tivoli * Strong knowledge of protocols, including: TCP /IP, NFS, SMTP, SNMP, FTP, HTTP * Strong knowledge of RAID, Fiber Channel, SCSI, DLT * Database knowledge: Oracle, SQL, Sybase, DB2/UDB, Clearcase * Programming languages: C, Perl, Unix Shell, Windows scripting * Anti-virus: Trend Micro, McAfee Essential Functions: Responsibilities will include planning and administering major portions of the implementation and engineering effort including designing/architecting major components, task management, personnel identification, client deliverables and communication with clients and management. This role requires broad exposure to a variety of technologies/concepts in a distributed environment. * Scope and write detailed Statements of Work * Perform storage assessments * Engage in sales team activities to scope service deliverables * Project manage engagements * Deliver on consulting tasks (e.g., installation and configuration of 3rd party applications like Veritas) * Contribute to the improvement or enhancement of NetApp consulting best practices * Perform migration and test application in detail. * Configure, implement and test backup/restore configuration. Requirements: 8 - 10 years of consulting and/or field engineering experience with 2-6 years hands-on, technical experience implementing, installing and supporting servers and data management systems in a distributed computing environment, including in-depth NAS/SAN knowledge. Experience in the following: * Consulting experience; providing strategic and tactical planning for data management and delivery systems. * Successful candidates will have excellent analytical/problem solving abilities, leadership and sales skills. * Excellent verbal and written communications skills, presentation, customer, business and negotiation skills. * Up to 85+ travel may be necessary In addition to the above, PSC Level 3 should have direct people management experience and be able to drive the activities of multi-person customer, partner and NetApp consulting teams. This level will also drive the selection and business negotiation with consulting partners. Education: A Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent work experience is required.
