I'm not sure about that.  I don't have a initrd so I wouldn't think
that is the problem.

I've been trying to get a logging output of udev, but can't get any
sort of out put.  I've also tried debuging for ivtv when I do a
modprobe ivtv, but that is fruitless too.  Any suggestions on how to
get a logging output of udev or ivtv to see where it is looking for a
firmware?
