The cx2584[0123] is the broadcast video/audio digitizer.  It takes the
analog signals, syncs to them, and converts them to digital samples. If
you can't load the firmware for one of those, it's a miracle you're
getting anything.  You may be getting partially through load of the
firmware but it fails before completion.

I'm going to suggest that static discharge would be a culprit before
heat.  Swapping computer components on cold, low humidity days, while
not wearing cotton fabrics, and not properly grounding oneself is a
recipe for zapping chips.  Hopefully you didn't zap your cx25840 chips,
but it is a possibility, if you're looking to blame hardware.

What do the logs say when you load the modules with the debug option
set?
