The main thing about the cx25840 is that it's cheaper, includes the
audio and video in one chip, and comes from Conexant too so get a
package deal on the cx23416 and cx25840 together. So it's very likely
this is true, the chip is probably exactly what you get for the cheaper
price, just like the newer tuners they are using compared with the old
ones (could even be the tuner difference your seeing? have you tried
this with composite?). It's sad but expected for the price of these
cards, although really think they'd keep the 250 cards available for
those wanting a higher quality encoding still.
Thanks,
Chris

I was under the impression that the cx25840 used in the PVR-150 was a
better digitizer than the sa7115 used in the PVR-250. If that's true,
then something is up because it looks the opposite to me:

(This is tuner input with dnr_mode=3,temporal=0,spatial=0. I've also
tried switching cables between the two cards)
Thinking it might be something we're doing wrong, I installed windows
on a spare hard drive, then spent 15 minutes trying to figure out how
to switch between cards in WinTV2000 (you can't), it looks like I get
the same picture quality under windows too.
So were my assumptions about the cx25840 incorrect, or are both the
drivers not getting the best picture quality from the card?
