I finally got it working but I dont understand why. I have had the following problem for several days which I couldn't fix. I started playing with ptune-ui.pl and changed "NTSC" --> "NTSC-hrc". It worked after that

NTSC-HRC is just another frequency table. Most cable systems use CATV STD, but since that would be too easy, they came up with a bunch of alternative ways to assign channel numbers too. HRC stands for Harmonically Related Carrier, which means that the video carrier is assigned on a nice "round" 6MHz interval. There's also IRC (errr Incremently Related Carrier I believe), which is the same as STD except in the A and T channels. In IRC, the lower edge of the channel is on a 6MHz interval, and the video carrier is 1.25MHz up from there. Anyway, long boring technical stuff aside, I hear some cable companies use HRC. There's nothing wrong with you for having to use it :)
