i don't agree that it makes life easier
with a finite length for an email reading window
putting new text at the top makes sense to me
if i'm following a thread - chances are i've just read the previous message - 
so don't need to read it again - and again - oh, and have to scroll down to 
read the new text at that

anyway, john has contributed quite a bit on this mailing list
he can post any which way he wants to (IMNSHO)
