Hmm.  I think you're implying xine (and maybe Myth - I
get the shift in both) has a bug which causes the
horizontal offset if it's using a 720x576 screen.  I
just tried something that disagrees: I started a
vncserver on the mythbox and connected to it over the
lan.  When I started the vncserver I specified
-geometry 720x576.  I connected with vncviewer, and
through the vnc xterm I started myth using
"mythfrontend --geometry 720x576+0+0 &".

Then I started playing a recording.  It played full
screen (of course, only a few fps and no audio) but
there was no horizontal offset of the video.  I also
played a video with xine using the geometry setting -G
720x576+0+0, and again it played full screen but did
not exhibit a horizontal shift.

Also, I should mention that I didn't see this shift
with the earlier versions of ivtv that had earlier
xv/yuv support, but it's possible that that's because
I had "use gui size for tv playback" ticked.
