And if you still need help, post the dmesg stuff about ivtv along
with your modprobe.conf stuff.
Here's Modprobe.conf:
# ivtv modules setup
alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 ivtv

This looked fine to me, but I'm definitely not an expert. Tuner type
2 is definitely an older model PVR250, unless its autodetecting
wrong. In fact, you might want to check that the new kernel you
installed didn't include non-ivtv versions of the key modules (tuner,
tveeprom, msp3400, etc) that might be getting loaded instead of your
ivtv compiled ones.
