Thank you for your prompt response.  I've put my modprobe.conf below, I've 
modified it as described in Jarod's tid.  I've also included the output of 
mplayer.  Maybe something in there could be of use?

Thats the way to go right there.  Jarod's guide is excellent.

Your dmesg and lspci both look perfect.  Do you set the minor numbers  
in modprobe.conf?  Any at all in modprobe.conf thats related to ivtv?
