I can tell you that a digital thermostat is cool, and the station type work can do more for you (with different tips)
http://www.howardelectronics.com/Xytronic/137ESD.html and the new version http://www.howardelectronics.com/Xytronic/LF1600.html If you can afford giving 99USD, and can find 137ESD, i guess you can use it long time if you be careful.. The resistance is ceramic, so you shouldn't drop the iron for its good. Temperature control is a must for SMD work. There are other ways to do better and easier ( i still couldn't try to do it, but i have bought the liquid solder from dealextreme). You should take some time examining the sites deeply : http://www.seattlerobotics.org/encoder/200006/oven_art.htm http://www.homanndesigns.com/SMDToasterOvenProject.html http://www.homanndesigns.com/oven.pdf http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/tutorial_info.php?tutorials_id=59&page= http://www.instructables.com/id/Home-reflow-SMD-soldering/ You should go through steps clicking "next". It is a nice resource: http://www.instructables.com/id/Extreme-Surface-Mount-Soldering/step2/The-Hot-Plate-Soldering-System/ 2010/8/27 funlw65 <[email protected]> > Mine is 25Watt and is good for the little jobs I do... > All I need is a bunch of "sharp" tips to be able to solder small > vias... > A powerful soldering iron ca burn fast your thin tips if you don't > have a soldering station - I think...
