hi vasile,

I can remember being part of the people who weren't very in favor with this kind of event (conference). I know I'm not involved in research because I know what research is, I worked in a research lab. the way you describe papers are very formal, and it explains why you wanted always to have footnotes with a bibmiographic reference, etc, while html also provided links to pahe... so academic :) I've been involved with this kind of writings, this ain't a lot of fun. also, the reviewers step is *sometime* a kind of a joke, when you know how it goes behind the scene, but you also know that...

I'd be happy to see shows or whatever, whoever speaking, no review, tvis would gave much more results in terms of brainstorming. it depends how ypu would define a "higher level", but shows just aren't lower than conferences, there are different with different results and different tzrget audience.

cheers
seb

ps: do you have Endnote ? ;)

Hi Matt @all

I have proposed since a long time ago to set up an international conference (with real papers and real reviewers, etc) talking about jal projects on different topics (as toys, development tools, learning, scientific applications, industrial applications, hardware and software, etc). However, when I've asked, people said they aren't involved in "research" probably because they don't know what research is and don't want to participate to such conference. A conference is a higher level of "show" and is initiated with a calls for papers (and a lot of organizing trouble which must be solved by the owners). A paper is structured following some well defined rules (somehow as those Rob introduced at jallib) and every paper is read at least by two reviewers which are accepting or declining the papers based on those rules. When paper is accepted, the author must pay his participation tax, which gives the right of be present there. Most conferences had a program based usually on a three day schedule (usually in the weekend), including a cocktail, a restaurant meal and a social event (a trip).

I wish I could show off JALv2/Jallib here in Canada, but I would have
no idea where to do so or how. I also don't have enough completed
projects to show off.

I think you also need a few friends that know the language and also
have projects to show off. My friends aren't into this stuff.

Matt.

I can also offer to use during the fair: computers for the booth, power supplies, soldering irons, little electronic gadgets to show what jal and jallib is for, and some hands full of scrap PCBs that can be used for MAX232 chips as giveaways.
