Hi! To supply an external 32MHz clock, you need to define
pragma target OSC ECH_NOCLKOUT HS is only for direct crystal connection and up to 20MHz. Did you connect RA5 (/MCLR) to Vdd? A floating MCLR pin often leads to funny behaviour. That does of course not address the compiler failure, but anyway...
